24-year-old Emanuele Tetti defeated the Spaniard Samuel Babayan, thus winning the K1 WKN “World Flyweight” title . The match took place at the Atlantico Live in Rome during the “Fighting Spiritual Muay Thai” event, where the athlete from Genzano di Roma took the belt after five rounds.
We had a quick chat with him just before the match, and now we have spoke with him again to hear about his impressions about the event.
TS: Hi Emanuele! We had a little talk before the match. Congratulations on your victory! Do you want to tell us how it went? Was the opponent within your reach? Were you properly prepared or did you have any difficulties?
ET: It was a tough match, I won on points, so we fought throughout the 5 rounds. My opponent was very well prepared, he always came forward despite the heavy blows that I inflicted on him. We fought blow by blow, but I always gave one back more and more powerful.
Tactically, the match went as we had planned with my coach Alessandro Topa. We knew he would attack so I had to stop him using my kicks. On a physical level I was in perfect shape and fully prepared to carry out 5 tough rounds, which is thanks to my trainer and friend Anthony
Cusano. I maybe felt a bit tired in the fourth round, but also my opponent was tired as we brought a very high pace with a large number of shots. In the fifth round I recovered my energy and I ended up improving with Samuel suffering my kicks to his liver.
TS: What are your plans after this victory?
ET: Future projects are to defend this belt from anyone who wants to challenge me. Maybe win other belts in K1 like the WAKO PRO or ISKA and maybe even a belt in Muay Thai. But the main objective remains to fight at K1 Japan the most important organisation for my K1 weight, I’m sure they will call me soon.
TS: In a match and in a high-level context like the one in Rome, what were your feelings?
ET: I felt so many emotions, I was focused like never before so I tried to stifle every emotion that wouldn’t make me cool headed during the fight. During the Italian anthem and when I saw that the venue was packed with around 2200 people and that many of them were there to support me , I admit I was holding a breath a bit 🙂
TS: Thanks for the talk and see you soon!
